Visit our reptiles guide for the Baldwin Hills!

The Baldwin Hills is home to a small variety of snakes, lizards, and turtles that have managed to persist despite habitat degradation and increasing urbanization. Out of the 11 reptile species found in this area, only the three turtle species (which were most likely dumped in the park by pet owners) are considered non-native or introduced. While the Western Fence Lizard is by far the most common critter you will come across, keep an eye out for the more secretive Western Skink or the Gophersnake.
